RE: Cage / Equipment Room Status FALL 2009

Dear Filmmaking Majors, Minors, and students taking Filmmaking and Video Classes:

It is with deep regret that we write this to you, but due to a reduction in our overall budget, a hiring freeze, and the inability from now on to pay an Equipment Manager out of the course fees - the Filmmaking Program will have to reduce the number of hours our equipment room can be open for taking out equipment, and as a service to the students.

The new Cage schedule will be as follows:

Monday 10:30AM – 6:30PM Returns / Take Out

Tuesday 9:30 – 12:30: Work Study support for teachers to get equipment.

Wednesday: 10:30 – 4:30: Work Study support for teachers

Thursday 10:30AM – 6:30PM Returns / Take Out

Friday 10AM-6PM* - Work Study Support for teachers.
*Some equipment needed in Friday’s Classes will be reserved to take out then.

So equipment will essentially go out on Monday and return on Thursday, and go out again on Thursday and return on Monday.

What does this mean?
This means that students will have to plan their shoots carefully , and determine the equipment they will need in advance.; sometimes filmmakers will be required by their teachers to share a camera so as to help each other out. There will be fewer opportunities to get cameras.

What can we do about this?
Pre-plan your semester with fellow students in the class; you will have to work with other students and share equipment doubling up on shoots. See other options to responding to this letter in the Cage, or write to Film@montclair.edu with subject “Cage Hours”.

If you are Work Study please help seek us out to see what you can do to help.
